Spelling is often the stumbling block for kids when it comes to learning to read and write. It can be frustrating for both parents and kids, especially when they’re tackling more challenging words. This article covers tips and tricks on how to make child learn spellings and best way to teach spelling words.
According to research from the National Center for Education Statistics, over 80% of fourth graders struggle with their spelling skills. That’s why we as parents must come up with ways to help our children learn to spell fast. That being said, there are several ways that you can make the process easier for your child. In this blog post, we will go over some of the best tips on how to help your child learn to spell easily.
How to make child learn spellings
We’re all familiar with the moment when our child comes running up to us and frantically cries: “Mummy! Daddy! I can’t spell this word. It is so difficult, what does it say again?” It’s hard to know how to react in these moments. Obviously, we want our kids to succeed in life and not have any difficulties with spellings.
However, most parents don’t have time or energy for complex long-term solutions. The good news is that even though you cannot change how your kid learns things, you can definitely find ways to make their learning process much easier. Here are 5 super easy and simple tips on how to teach spelling in a fun way.
Create a Vocabulary List
One of the best way to teach spelling words is that is to create a vocabulary list. Having a list of words that you can review will help you to memorize those words more quickly. Plus, it’s a great way to keep track of which words your kids are having trouble with. You mustn’t just rely on your child’s teacher for this information. A child’s teacher is focused on what the entire class needs to know, not just your child. To create a vocabulary list, you can use a notebook, a notebook app, or a worksheet. Just make sure that the vocabulary list is something that you can access easily.
Fun spelling games
Another tip on how to teach spelling in a fun way is to create spelling games. You can play games that focus on word families, rhyming words, or word puzzles like Scrabble and Boggle. Another great game that your child can play is Scattergories. It’s a crossword-type game where players have to come up with a word that fits into a given category, like “a vegetable beginning with ‘s’”.
Playing fun spelling games like these will help your child to familiarize themselves with different types of words, which will make them easier to remember later on. Of course, these games are more effective when you are playing them, which is why you must find time to do so. If you’re busy with work or other obligations, it might be difficult to find time for games. Spelling games is an easiest answer to how to learn spelling words fast.
Look for words that sound the same
If your child is having trouble with a certain word, you can help them learn to spell it by looking at words that sound the same. For example, “there” and “their” sound the same but are spelled differently. So, if you say the word “there” out loud, have your child trace the letters in the word on a piece of paper. Doing this will help them to remember how to spell “there” correctly.
This is a great trick to try if your child is having trouble with a word that is confusing to them. Just remember to do this trick with words that sound the same, not ones that are very similar but are different. Otherwise, you could confuse your child even more.

Use The ABC Method
Another fun and best way to teach spelling words is The ABC method. The ABC method can be a useful way to help your child learn how to spell new words. With the ABC method, you start with the first letter of the word and then go down the rest of the word. If your child is having trouble with a word, have them break the word down into letters. Then, try to come up with a word that starts with that letter that they know.
Once they have that word, they can use it to figure out the rest of the word. This is a great trick to use when your child is struggling with a word. You can also use this method if your child is reading out loud and isn’t sure how to pronounce the word correctly. Having your child break the word down into letters and then finding words that start with those letters can help them to pronounce the word correctly.
Write The Words Over And Over Again
Writing words out over and over again is another great way to help your child learn to spell. This is particularly useful for younger children who may not be ready for the more complex ABC method yet. Once your child has become more comfortable with spelling, though, it may be time to move on to something else.
Writing words out over and over again is helpful when your child is just starting, but as they get more confident with their spelling, they may not need to do this anymore. That being said, you should use this method sparingly. You mustn’t make your child feel like they are doing something wrong by struggling with their spelling. Instead, focus on helping them develop their skills and confidence.
